Why Featherbind

Not a template. A book about them.

Every Featherbind book starts from scratch, from what you tell us about your child.

  • A story written for your child

We write it from what you share: their name, age and interests, and a story idea if you have one. It isn’t a template with a name swapped in.

  • Your child as the hero

Drawn from your photos in a cinematic, stylised 3D animated look, in bright daylight or warm dusk. Always illustrated, never photographic.

  • A person checks every book

Every book is reviewed by a person before it goes to print, and you see a digital proof first.

  • A keepsake hardcover

Printed as a premium square hardcover, 20 × 20 cm, with 14 illustrated story spreads across 30 pages.

How it works

From your child to their book, in four steps

  1. Step 1: Tell us about your child

Their name, age and what they love, a story idea if you have one, and a few photos so we can draw them.

  2. Step 2: We write and illustrate

An original story, with your child drawn as the hero of every spread.

  3. Step 3: You approve the proof

A person checks every book. Then you see the whole book as a digital proof, and nothing is printed until you approve it.

  4. Step 4: We print and ship

Your book is printed as a premium hardcover and sent to you.

Shipping destinations and delivery times will be confirmed before orders open.

Take a look inside

Anna and the Lighthouse Book

Meet Anna, one of our fictional sample children. She’s seven and loves reading, magical worlds and daydreaming. Her story idea: a summer visit to her grandparents in Noosa. This is the book written for her.

Anna, in a denim jacket and yellow dress, presses her hands to her cheeks in dismay beside a tall bookcase in her grandparents’ lamp-lit living room.

There was a gap on the shelf. A book-shaped, empty gap. The Lighthouse Book was gone.

Anna lies on a woven rug among cushions, chin in her hand and feet in the air, thinking hard.

“What would a book detective do?” she muttered. A book detective would look for clues.

Anna crouches in a sunlit hallway, shining an old torch on a small grey feather lying on the rug.

There, on the hallway rug, was something small and grey and curled. The gull feather. The Lighthouse Book’s bookmark!

With a feather tucked behind her ear and a torch in her hand, Anna climbs a wooden ladder into a sunny attic room with a round window and a telescope.

“Chapter Four,” Anna breathed. “In Which Anna Climbs.”

In the attic at night, Anna smiles as she opens the blue Lighthouse Book and tucks the gull feather inside, with the moon shining through the round window behind her.

“Chapter Five,” she whispered, and her voice only wobbled a little. “In Which Anna Is Brave.”
